Mallorca on the horizon
Wow! After months of anticipation and planning, we’re
finally going to Mallorca. As I’m writing this, Steve and I are at SFO with a
long layover before we board our Swiss flight to Zurich. From there we take
another Swiss flight to Palma, Majorca. We arrive about 5:00PM tomorrow. Lisa
and Neil at with us at SFO. Jonathan will arrive about 35 minutes after us via
San Jose and London. Mike will make it to Mallorca Friday afternoon.
I had not planned a seven-hour layover. Way back in October
when I booked our flights, United had a 3:00ish flight out of SLO to SFO.
Perfect timing. Enough time to grab some dinner before boarding the overnight
flight. But, as with all things United, the flight was taken off the schedule
back in January. So, we were rebooked on a flight that left at 1:00PM.
Now to be fair, we’ve not exactly forced to sit in the hard,
cramped, and generally uncomfortable airport chairs while babies are two feet
away screaming. Because of my long
history with United, we are enjoying the food and a couple adult beverages in
the United/Star Alliance International Lounge.
Yes, it’s a tough way to spend a
layover, but someone must do it. After all, why let all those good adult
beverages do to waste?
It’s good to finally have our trip underway. Anything left
behind is history. We have the most important stuff – passports, helmets,
jerseys, bibs, and bike. What else do we need?
