A Different Sort of Cycling Adventure

In years past, I have blogged about some pretty incredible cycling trips. Not uncommon to report a hundred miles and 10,000 feet of climbing per day. Or even 526 miles in 27 hours. I’m sorry to report that this trip will not fall into the category of EPIC. Instead, we’ve agreed this trip will fall into the category of “fun on the bike.”  Of course, we often say something similar at the beginning of many rides. How many times have you heard one of us say, “It’s my recovery week,” or “I’m taking it easy”, only to be caught up in a balls wrenching pace line toward the next regroup? So much for self-control!

As a point of reference, this week is not a race. No more Raid Corsica or similar races for me! The concept of this week is to enjoy being on a bike in a place none of us have ever visited. To enjoy the beauty and magnificence of an island in the Mediterranean.  To experience the food, culture, and adult beverages that will be both Spanish and Catalonian.

On Sunday, when we start to ride, we have pledged to enjoy this trip like no other. To experience the true love of just being on a bike. To champion friendship and enjoy a quieter time on the road. To see and understand what it means to be privileged enough to ride in another country.  So perhaps this blog will be more reflective and less EPIC. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!
